Cosmetic surgery trends changing - Dr. Brueck comments

In this blog message, Dr. Brueck comments on changes in the popularity of cosmetic surgery procedures for women. More comprehensive comments on plastic surgery in Fort Myers can be found at Dr. Brueck's web site, Beauty-by-Brueck.com

WHAT’S NEW FOR WOMEN

Last year saw some rather dramatic reversals in cosmetic surgery trends for women. Last year, the number 1 (numero uno) procedure for women was Breast Augmentation; just under 300,000 breast augs were performed in 2010. This represents a jump of 39% from the year 2000. I feel a big reason for this rise is due to the fact silicone is back on the market. These implants in my opinion are certainly better than saline. Along with augmentation, mastopexy or breast lifts saw a healthy rise of 70% since 2000.

Some of the previously popular cosmetic surgery procedures saw a dramatic fall.

Liposuction was down 43% (203,106), nose reshaping or rhinoplasty down 35% (252,261), eyelid surgery down 36% (208,764) and facelifts down 16% (112,955).

I feel some of the more traditional cosmetic surgery procedures for women such as eyelid surgery and facelifts are down because non-surgical procedures such as Botox and injectable fillers are being substituted.

But, I always tell my patients, “if you have loose skin, fillers won’t do.”
