Omega 3 and Prostate Cancer - Not good news

HERE WE GO AGAIN
I just visited my doctor to have my PSA (prostate specific antigen) checked and all was well.  But then I read an article that said Omega 3 fish oil can INCREASE your chance for prostate cancer.  Everyone has said the Omega 3’s  are great for you. Now, maybe not.  A new study conducted by Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center found that men who consumed large doses of Omega 3 fish oils had a 43% increased risk of developing prostate cancer.  Also the type of prostate cancer they develop is 71% more likely to be high grade which can be more fatal.  So maybe we should skip the fish oil supplement and exercise more.

OMEGA 3’s - Good for Skin? - Dr. Brueck, Fort Myers Plastic Surgeon thinks so.

Dr. Robert J. Brueck, a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon in Fort Myers, FL, frequently blogs about matters of health and appearance. This time, he discusses Omega 3 Fish Oil.

Omega 3 counteracts inflammation. That is good.

The skin requires a steady supply of fat to maintain hydration and smoothness in texture. For example, sun causes inflammation and inflammation and sun are bad for our complexion and skin.

Most American diets are low in fish oil. I think the common mantra is "give me a good steak." Also those who do eat fish can cause the Omega-3s to be destroyed by over-heating or over-cooking the fish.

This may cause one to require a supplement to get an essential amount of fish oils in their diet.

There is a website called www.advancedweb.com/healthyaging.com with some references regarding fish oil supplements. Perhaps this can be added to your diet so you can have softer, more supple, healthier looking skin.

Thanks for visiting.

Life is good. How to get more of it - from Dr. Brueck, Fort Myers Plastic Surgeon

[This is one in a series of postings by Dr. Robert J Brueck concerning items of interest in health care. Other aspects of health, related specifically to cosmetic and plastic surgery, are discussed on Dr. Brueck's Web site.]

Now that we’ve learned that coffee can be good for your health, the more and more studies are showing other things are good as well.

We’ve learned in the past that omega 3 fatty acids from fish are great for your heart but new research shows they may also be good for longevity.

Heart patients that take omega3 fatty acids have longer telomeres -these are parts of the DNA molecules - and longer telomeres mean longer life expectancy.

Shorter telomeres are a key part of cellular aging.

I guess the lesson learned is that we should all go out and lengthen our telomeres.

Of course in order to verify this a double blind study would be necessary but it provides food for thought and hope for the future, enjoy.
